Auxins
Growth hormone in plants that is responsible for cell elongation, phototropism, cell division, and fruit development
Gibberellins
Growth promoting hormones that promote elongation, found in leaves, roots, embryos, seeds, and fruits
Cytokinins
Promote cell division, prevent senescence (aging) of leaves, initiate leaf growth, and works with auxins to differentiate plant tissues
Abscisuc Acid
Plant stress hormone that closes stomata and maintains dormancy
Ethylene
Plant hormone responsible for the ripening of fruit, abscission (leaf drop) and stimulating cellulose
Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)
Hormone from the hypothalamus that causes the anterior pituitary to release FSH and LH
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
Stimulates sperm production in males. In females, it regulates the menstrual cycle. Encourages the follicles on the ovary to grow and prepare the eggs for ovulation.
Testosterone
male sex hormone that stimulates the production of sperm and secondary sex characteristics
Estrogen
Maintains female secondary sex characteristics
Progesterone
Responsible for breast development and thickens the uterine lining for the eggs to implant within. Made by the corpus luteum.
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)
hCG maintains corpus luteum, is what pregnancy tests look for
HIV
Viral infection that eventually causes AIDs. Flu like symptoms. Must be tested for. Spreads through fluidic contact.
Herpes
Viral STD that causes painful blisters and ulcers. Spread through skin to skin contact. Symptoms occur in outbreaks that come and go.
HPV (Human Papillomavirus)
Viral STD that can cause warts in the genitals. Some strains can lead to cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers (cervical dysplasia)
Hepatitis B
Inflammation of the liver caused by a viral STD. Causes headache, fever, nausea, muscle aches, abdominal pain, jaundice.
Chlamydia
Bacterial STD spread through fluids. Can be passed on to a newborn if the mother is infected. Can cause yellow discharge, bleeding between periods, pus in urine, dull abdominal pain, or painful urinations
Gonorrhea (Neisseria Gonorrhoeae)
Bacterial STD that causes painful urinations and greenish yellow discharge in males. In females there are usually no symptoms and called to PID (pelvic inflammatory disease)
Syphilis
Bacterial infection. Starts as a sore that is painless it can eventually become active again after long periods of inactivity, and can cause damage to the heart brain or other organs.
