Anthropometry
The study of human body properties such as height, mass, and volume.
Structural/Static Anthropometry
Data from measurements while subject is still. Height is an example.
Functional/Dynamic Anthropometry
Data obtained while the subject is moving. Difficult to obtain.
Stadiometer
Tool to measure vertical distance from the floor to the top of the head of a standing person.
Skinfold Calipers
Tool used to measure the amount of body fat under the skin by gently pinching a fold of the skin.
Primary Data
Collected by the designer.
Secondary Data
Collected from a database of anthropometric measurements.
Percentiles
100 equal groups into which a sample population can be divided using the values of a variable.
Percentile Ranges
Used to measure dispersion within a sample population. Ex. P95-P5.
Adjustability
Designed to allow for anthropometric mismatch to be avoided.
