Global Issues
Challenges that transcend national and regional boundaries, affecting the common good of humankind and requiring international cooperation to monitor and address effectively.
Principle of Sovereign Equality
The concept that all sovereign states have equal rights and duties and are equal members of the international community, regardless of differences in economic, social, or political development.
Intergovernmental Organizations (IGOs)
Organizations formed by agreements between governments, such as the United Nations, WHO, and INTERPOL, which have legal power through treaties and are funded by member state contributions.
International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs)
Independent civil society organizations composed of individuals or private groups, such as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) or the Red Cross, that influence policy through advocacy and are funded by donations.
Prevalence of Global Drug Users
The percentage of global drug users aged 15-64 in the world population, which reached 6.0% (316 million people) in 2023.
UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime)
An IGO that supports countries in securing borders, establishing law enforcement networks, and creating platforms for multi-stakeholder partnerships to address drug and crime challenges.
INTERPOL (International Criminal Police Organization)
An organization with 196 member countries that facilitates international police cooperation, provides intelligence analysis on trafficking routes, and offers comprehensive training.
WFAD (World Federation Against Drugs)
An INGO that organizes the World Forum Against Drugs, serving as a global meeting point for volunteers and professionals working to prevent drug abuse at the grassroots level.
IFNGO (International Federation of Non-Government Organisation for the Prevention of Drug and Substance Abuse)
An organization that facilitates international exchange on drug abuse intervention, policy development, and clinical approaches.
