Photosynthesis
The process by which green plants use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water.
What is cellular respiration?
The process by which cells convert glucose and oxygen into energy, carbon dioxide, and water.
Ecosystem
A biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.
Biodiversity
The variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem.
Food Chain
A linear sequence of organisms through which nutrients and energy pass as one organism eats another.
Biotic Factors
Living components of an ecosystem that affect other organisms, such as plants, animals, and microorganisms.
Abiotic Factors
Non-living physical and chemical components of an ecosystem, such as climate, soil, and water.
Niche
The role or function of an organism or species within an ecosystem, including its habitat and interactions.
Trophic Levels
The hierarchical levels of the food chain, determined by the number of energy transfers from primary producers to apex predators.
Symbiosis
A close and long-term biological interaction between two different species.
Carbon Cycle
The series of processes by which carbon compounds are interconverted in the environment.
Nitrogen Cycle
The series of processes by which nitrogen and its compounds are interconverted in the environment and in living organisms.
Habitat
The natural home or environment of an organism, providing food, shelter, and mates.
Pollination
The transfer of pollen from male anthers to female stigma of flowers, allowing fertilization to occur.
Invasive Species
Non-native species that spread widely in a new habitat, often harming native species and ecosystems.
Carrying Capacity
The maximum number of individuals of a species that an environment can sustainably support.
Sustainable Development
Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Climate Change
Long-term alteration of temperature and typical weather patterns in a place, often attributed to human activity.
Extinction
The end of an organism or a group of organisms, typically leading to the disappearance of that species from Earth.
Ecological Footprint
A measure of human demand on the Earth's ecosystems and natural resources.
