What are the four forces of Flight?
Lift, weight, trust, drag
What are the Primary flight controls?
Ailerons, elevator, rudder
What are the Secondary flight controls?
Flaps, Trim (anti-servo trim tab)
leading edge device, spoilers
How are the yoke and rudder pedals linked to their associated flight control surface?
They’re connected by cables via pullwys, bellcranks and pushrods
When you turn the yoke to the left, which direction does each aileron move
the lieft aileron go up, and the right goes down
At slower airspeeds, would you expect your flight controls to be more or less effective? Why?
Less, due to the decreased airflow over the control surface
If I pull back on the yoke, which direction does the trailing edge of the elevaotr/ stabilator move?
upwards
If I apply full nose down trim, which direction will the trailing edge of the trim/ anti-servo tab move?
upwards
How would you describe your engine systems?
LHAND - Piper Warrior PA-28
Lycoming, 4-ccylinder,, O-320, 150 horsepower at 2,700 RPM
Horizontally Opposed (pistons oppose each other)
Air cooled - don’t have a radiator and a liquid-based system. likely to overheat
Natural Aspirated - Maximum available power decreases with altitude.
Direct Drive (crankshaft connected directly to the propeller)
Engine ignition is provided through 2 magnetos. Each magneto powers one spark plug per cylinder (redundancy) for a toal of 8 spark plugs
How would you describe your Propeller?
??
Why is the propeller blade twisted along its length?
used to create different angles of attack
Done to create a uniform amount of lift along the length of the blade.
What does “fixed-pitch” mean?
The angle of the prop can not be changed in order to meet certain performance requirements
What are the four phases of operations in a four-stroke engine?
Intake
Compression
Power
Exhaust
How would you describe your landing geaer system?
fixed, tricycle type gear, with oleo (air/oil) providing shock absorption
Nose wheel has a shimmy damperner
How would you describe eyour fuel system? Oil System? Hydraulic System?
Uses 100 LL
2, 25 gals (1 gal unusable)
electric fuel pump for take off and landings and switching tanks
Oil: 6 - 8 qts
Hydraulically-actuated disc brakes
Toe brakes and parking brakes have seperate braking cylinders but share a hydraulic reservior. The brake fluid reservior is installed on the top left front face of the firewall
