End of WWI
The conflict that concluded the end of several empires, including the Russian, German, Austrian, and Ottoman empires.
Austrian Empire
One of the empires that ended after World War I, leading to significant geopolitical changes in Europe.
German Revolution
A revolution that took place in Germany in November 1918, leading to the abdication of Kaiser Wilhelm II.
Armistice
An agreement made by opposing sides in a conflict to stop fighting for a certain time; occurred on November 11, 1918.
Treaty of Versailles
The 1919 treaty that officially ended World War I and imposed heavy reparations and territorial losses on Germany.
Article 231
A clause in the Treaty of Versailles that assigned full responsibility for the war to Germany.
Spartacus Uprising
A leftist uprising in Germany in January 1919 led by Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg, aimed at establishing a communist government.
Stab-in-the-back Legend
The belief that the German military had not lost the war on the battlefield, but rather was betrayed by civilians at home, especially communists and Jews.
Abdication
The act of renouncing the throne; significant in the context of the end of monarchies following WWI.
Remembrance Day
Observed on November 11, the day World War I ended, to honor those who died in the war.
