Coelom
Fluid filled body cavity surrounding gut where organs are suspended - more space, surface area, structural support, complexity
Importance of Coelem
Cushioned space for organ development, organs grow/function independently, and more complex body plans

Acoelomate
Animals that lack a coelom entirely; internal organs embedded directly in mesodermal tissue (flatworms - platyhelminthes)

Pseudocoelomate (Blastocoelomate)
Animals with body cavity lined by mesoderm and endoderm, not fully mesodermal (roundworms - Nematoda)

Eucoelomate (True Coelom)
Animals with body cavity fully lined by mesodermal tissue (vertebrates, annelids, mullusks)
