Depression
Treated with SSRI /SNRI and can add Bupropion (Wellbutrin), which helps w/libidio.
Anxiety
Treated with SSRI or buspirone (Buspar).
ADHD
Treated with stimulants including methylphenidate (ritalin), amphetamine) dextroamphetamine (adderall), and vyvanse.
Insomnia
Managed with sleep hygiene, melatonin, benadryl and Ambien if severe.
Bipolar
Treated with lithium, valproate, or aripiprazole.
lithium
A medication for Bipolar that can cause hypothyroidism. Avoid grapefruit w lithium
PTSD
Treated with a combination of SSRI + CBT.
OCD
Treated with SSRI drugs like fluoxetine or sertraline plus CBT.
Smoking cessation
Assisted by Bupropion or Chantix (varenicline).
Alcohol abuse (Prevention)
Involves AA and thiamine (lit B) to prevent Wernicke encephalopathy.
Alcohol abuse (Cravings)
Medications include naltrexone.
Schizophrenia
Treated with Antipsychotics (ex: Haldol), which may cause s/s Metabolic side effects
Haldol
An antipsychotic with a risk of extrapyramidal symptoms/tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements).
Acetaminophen overdose
The antidote is N-acetylcysteine.
Opiate overdose
Treated with Narcan.
Benzodiazepine overdose
The antidote is Flumazenil.
Acute panic attack
Treated with Benzodiazepine for short term only.
Seasonal affective disorder
Treated with light therapy; patients should avoid melatonin.
