lab question
what is the effect of sugar type on the rate of fermentation in yeast
lab procedure
1) put yeast in glasses with sugars
2) add water
3) weight and measure the rate of fermentation (kpa/sec)
sugar with the fastest rate of reaction
sucrose (disaccharide; glucose + fructose; found in fruit)
1) makes sense b/c yeast is naturally associated with fruit (glucose + fructose are in most fruits) + sugars are required for fermentation
sugars with the lowest rate of fermentation
galactose and lactose (galactose and glucose) (found in dairy products)
lab inaccuracies
had some outliers
1) make sure to really clean out glasses
2) do the experiments one at a time to ensure that everyone does the procedure correctly
