What kind of wave is a sound wave
A mechanical wave
What does it mean to be a mechanical wave
A wave that can go through a medium (solid, liquid or gas) and can transfer energy without transferring matter
What is a longitudinal wave?
A wave that travels parallel to the direction in which it transfers energy
Why is a compression?
A region in the air where particles are compressed together
What is a rarefaction?
Regions in a wave where the particles are spread out
What is an auditory nerve?
The nerve connecting the inner ear and the brain
What are Ossicles?
The collective name for 3 small bones that transmit vibrations from the inner ear

The malleus, Incus and Stapes
What does it mean to collide?
To come forcefully into direct contact with another object

The passage leading to the ear drum

The membrane of the inner ear

A device used to record signals such as sound waves

A sounds pitch depends on the waves frequency while its volume is dependant on its amplitude
