Stages of child language acquistion

Stage 1

Pre-verbal stage: babbling, able to produce sounds and interact with carer

Stage 2

Holophrastic: one word, sound imitation, haven’t attached meaning yet

Stage 3

Telegraphic, two words, attach meaning, noun and verb combinations

Stage 4

Multi-word, from 3 onwards, grammatical structures, conjunctions, complex sentences

Phonology

sounds, intonation, consonant and vowel sound

Morphological

bits, prefixes and suffixes, posession, overgeneralisation (runned)

Lexical

words, half of words are nouns, pronouns and contractions

Syntatic

sentences, noun+verb, combing 3-4 words

Semantic

context, similar words, understand, follow and answer
