Solute
The substance that dissolves.
Solvent
The substance in which the dissolving occurs.
Solution
The substance formed when the solute dissolves in the solvent.
Unsaturated solution
The substance in which more solute can be dissolved at a given temperature.
Saturated solution
The solution in which more solute cannot be dissolved at a given temperature.
Concentration
The amount of solute present in a fixed quantity of solution/solvent.
Dilute solution
Less amount of solute in the solvent (subjective).
Concentrated solution
More amount of solute in the solvent (Subjective).
Solubility
The maximum amount of solute that dissolves in a fixed quantity of the solvent.
Density
The mass present in a unit volume of that substance. SI Unit: Kilogram/Metre³ (kg/m³).
Relative Density
Density of any substance with respect to another substance (usually water).
Effect of Temperature on density
Density increases when temperature decreases.
Effect of pressure on density
Density of gases increases with pressure, while its effect on solids and liquids is negligible.
