Normal skin

Normal skin

Normal skin - Dermis

Normal skin - Epidermis

Normal skin - Hypodermis

Skin with basal cell carcinoma
2 skin slides
Tumors in dermis and in connection with epidermis, but nothing in hypodermis

BCC - Apoptosis

BCC - Tumor lobule
Relatively well circumscribed (malignant tumor with clearly defined, smooth borders)
Large basaloid lobules with palisadation of the peripheral nuclei
Situated within a fibromyxoid stroma
Cells are basaloid (similar to cells in the base layer of the epidermis)

BCC - Cleft between tumor lobules and stroma/dermis
Common finding in BCC
Called cleft artefact

BCC - Tumor cells in connection with epidermis

BCC - Palisadation of the peripheral nuclei
Palisadation = Alignment of elongated cell nuclei in parallel rows
Seen in tumor lobules

BCC - Epidermis

BCC - Dermis

BCC - Hypodermis

BCC - Tumor stroma
A bit fibrotic - more dense than normal tissue
Black dots = Lymphocytes

BCC - Highly sun damaged skin
Greyish mass → Sun damage
Normally dermis is pink

Normal hair follicle within BCC skin
Surrounded by subcutaneous glands
