wavelength
the length of a wave measured in meters
longituidnal
the particles of the medium vibrate in a direction paraell to the direction of the wave motion
velocity
the speed of a wave. it is determined by the type of wave medium (air, water, glass, etc.) and its unit is meters/second (m/s).
frequency
the number of times the motion repeats itself in a given unit of time
the unit is cycles/second or Hz
electromagnetic
this type of wave dosen’t require a medium and can travel through a vacuum
amplituide
the max displacement of any particle in the medium relative to its rest position. it is related to the energy of the wave.
period
the time it takes for a wave to complete one cycle.
the unit is seconds.
mechanical
a type of wave that requires a medium to propagate
wave
a vibratory distrubance that is transmitted through a material (called a medium) or through a vacuum
transverse
the particles of a medium vibrate about a rest position perpendicular to the direction of the wave.
