pantoprazole (protonix)

aluminum hydroxide

fast acting antacid used to treat heartburn, acid indigestion, and sour stomach by reducing stomach acid

metronidazole

antibiotic and antiprotozal medication effective against anaerobic bacteria and parasites, treating infections of vagina, stomach, liver, joints, skin and brain

nystatin

antifungal med primarily used to treat candida infections of the skin, mouth, and GI tract

ranitidine (zantac)

H2 receptor antagonist; reduces stomach acid

sucralfate (carafate)

used to treat and prevent active duodenal ulcers by creating a protective, sticky gel barrier over damage tissue

bismuth subsalicylate

remind patient to refrain from taking aspirin while on this medication. can lead to overdose

sucralfate

give 1 hour before and 2 hours after meals and at bedtime.

antacids may interfere with effect

famotidine and nizatidine

give single dose at bedtime for treatment of heartburn and PUD

H2 antagonists blockers

decreases gastric acid secretions by blocking histamine receptors in parietal cells

proton pump inhibitors

suppress HK-ATpase enzyme system of gastric acid secretions to suppress acid

aluminum hydroxide

give 1 hr after meals and at bedtime.

can cause constipation

magnesium hydroxide with aluminum hydroxide

give 2 hours after meals and at bedtime

do not give other drugs within 1-2 hours of antacids
