Pharmacology
The study of drugs, including their dosage, administration, and effects.
Dosage
The total amount of a drug to be given to a patient.
Dosage Interval
The frequency of administering a drug.
Intradermal
Referring to a method of drug administration within the skin.
Intravenous (IV)
Administration of drugs directly into a vein.
Subcutaneous (SC)
Drug administration into the tissue layer between the skin and muscle.
Nebulization
A method of delivering medication in liquid form that is vaporized for inhalation.
Sublingual
A method where drugs are placed under the tongue for absorption.
Transdermal
Delivery of medication through the skin.
Intraperitoneal (IP)
Administration of drugs within the peritoneal cavity.
Aseptic Technique
A procedure that prevents contamination by pathogens.
Biopsy
A procedure to remove tissue for examination.
Ligation
The process of tying off blood vessels or tissues.
FNA (Fine Needle Aspirate)
A procedure to collect cells using a thin needle.
CC (Cubic Centimeter)
A unit of volume equivalent to a milliliter.
OTC (Over-the-counter)
Medications available without a prescription.
Rx
Prescription; a directive from a physician to a pharmacist.
BID
Twice a day.
NPO (Nil Per Os)
Nothing by mouth; a directive for patients not to consume anything orally.
