Aside
A technique used in dramatic performances in which a character says something to him/herself for the purpose of informing the people reading what the character is thinking. No one else on stage hears the thought.
Iambic pentameter
rhythmic pattern of syllables, sounds similar to a heartbeat.
Blank verse
unrhymed lines of iambic pentameter, poetic form that echoes the natural rhythms of speech.

describes words or phrases that when placed together, create paradoxes or contradictions.
Monologue
a long uninterrupted speech by one character, used to express inner thoughts, emotions, or to address the audience directly.

a measurement pattern for iambic pentameter, establishing the poems musicality and pace.
