combustion
complete — [HC] + O2 → CO2 + H2O
incomplete — [HC] + O2 → CO + C + H2O + CxHy
addition reaction
atom/group of atoms added to HC (usually alkene/alkyne)

elimination reaction
atom/group of atoms removed from HC
alkanes don’t go through elimination. Must be changed to alkyl halide first via substitution

substitution reaction
atom is replaced with another atom/group of atoms. Usually with alkanes

markovnikov’s rule
“RICH GET RICHER”, occurs where there’s double bonds
so like H’s go to where there’s the most H’s

anti-markovnikov’s rule
can be done with H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide)
rich dont get richer ig — hydrogen doesnt go to more hydrogen place
