What is bangladesh

Bangladesh is a low-lying, low-income country

located in South Asia

2
New cards

what is the climate change facttor that is affecting

Flooding→ cyclones, sea level rise, crop shortage, river erosion

heat → heat stress, drought, crop shortage

3
New cards

causes of vulnerability

geographical predisposition to flooding because of lying in a low-lying delta composed of 3 large rivers, making it prone to river erosion due to rainy seazon and coastal flooding

66% of the land is 5 meters or less above the ground

Bangladesh is also prone to cyclones a combination of strong winds and heavy rainfall. It can cause seawater to move inland, causing the death of many crops. A cyclone contributed to 500,000 deaths in 1970 but under 5,000 deaths in 2007

Sea water rise, affecting crops and drinkable water

Heat is also a problem, in 2024, due to high temperatures, 25 million work days have been lost, equating to 1.8 billion dollars lost

Impacts of vulnerability

mass migration towards urban centres, rural areas are especially prone due to the lack of attention. When salt water enters farming, fresh water is lost. While cities provide greater security.

Floods due to sea rise, and heavy rainfall may contaminate water sources with waste, causing an increased rate of water-borne diseases

Heat has increased the prelevance of strokes, respiratory porblems and the speard of vector born diseases
