Immunodeficiency
Inadequate immune response caused by immune system dysfunction.
Immunocompromised
A person whose immune system is not functioning properly.
Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disease (SCID)
The most severe type of inherited immunodeficiency resulting in impaired B and T cell function.
Opportunistic infections
Infections that target immunocompromised individuals and rarely affect healthy individuals.
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
A virus transmitted through semen, vaginal fluids, and blood that leads to immunodeficiency.
Seroconversion
A blood test that indicates the presence of HIV-antibodies, confirming HIV positive status.
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
A complication of HIV where the immune system is no longer functioning.
Lymphoma
Cancer that originates in the lymphatic system.
Hodgkin Lymphoma
A type of lymphoma where lymphocytes grow uncontrollably, causing swollen lymph nodes.
Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
A diverse group of blood cancers that includes all lymphomas except Hodgkin Lymphoma.
