What does the respiratory system do?
Allow us to breathe
What do we do when we breath?
We take in oxygen from the air and release carbon dioxide
What parts form the respiratory system?
The airways and the lungs
What parts form the airways?
The nose,the nostrils,the pharynx,the larynx,the vocal cords,the trachea,the bronchi and the bronchioles
What parts form the lungs?
The lungs, the rib cage, some bronchioles and the alveoli
What is the ribcage made up of?
The ribs, the sternum and the backbone
Which are the 2 respiratory movements?
Inhalation and exhalation
Inhalation is
breathing in
Exhalation is
breathing out
What happens when you breath in?
You take air inside your lungs
What happens when you breath out?
You expel air outside your lungs
What movements you make when you breath in?
The diaphragm goes down and the chest moves outwards
What movements you make when you breath out?
The diaphragm moves up and the chest moves inwards
How does the ribcage and the lungs get when you breathe in?
They get bigger
How does the ribcage and the lungs get when you breathe out?
They get smaller
Where does the gas exchange occur?
It occurs in the alveoli
What are the parts of the circulatory system?
The heart and the blod vessels
The circulatory system is formed by
The heart, the blood vessels(arteries, veins and capillaries) and the blood
The heart is
an organ made from muscles that contract and relax
The heart is located
inside the ribcage between the lungs
The four parts of the heart are
two atria and two ventricles
What do arteries do?
They carry blood from the heart around the body
What do veins do?
They carry blood from the body to the heart
Where are the chapels?
They are located between the arteries and the veins
What is blood?
Blood is a red liquid inside of the heart and the blood cells
What is the blood made up of?
It is made up of plasma and blood cells
What does plasma do?
It transports nutrients and gases
What do platelets do?
If the skin is wounded, they form a clot to stop the bleeding
What do white blood cells/leukocytes do?
They protect the body against infections
What do red blood cells/erythrocytes do ?
They carry oxygen
What are the two connected circuits in the circulatory system?
The pulmonary and the systemic circulation
What does pulmonary circulation consist of?
Blood with carbon dioxide through the venae cavae comes inside the heart and then it goes to the pulmonary artery flows through the pulmonary arteries and reaches the lungs, and the gas exchange occurs in the lungs, where the carbon dioxide is removed from the blood and the oxygen enters blood and that blood enters the heart from the pulmonary veins
What does pulmonary circulation consist of?
Pulmonary circulation is the short journey that deoxygenated blood takes from the right side of the heart to the lungs, where it is oxygenated by the fresh air you breathe in, where it releases the carbon dioxide you’ll expel when you exhale and takes in fresh oxygen to become clean, oxygen-rich blood that immediately returns to the left side of the heart, ready to be pumped vigorously throughout the body as a constant energy boost
What is excretion?
Is the process of removing the waste substances produced in our body
What makes up the urinary system?
The kidneys, the bladder and the urinary tract
What are the two parts of the urinary system?
The organs and the urinary tract
What are the two parts of the urinary tract?
The ureters and the urethra
What two organs are in the urinary system?
The kidneys and the bladder
