Tannen argues men and women are very different when it comes to language and men grow up in a world where conversation is competitive but for women its a form of support

Examples of this

men use more imperative whereas women use more ameliorated requests to be nicer

male conversations are a fight for power whereas women want support

men give facts whereas women give an emotional overview
