Founder
Someone who starts a group or organisation.
Symbol
A picture, image, object or action that represents something else.
Religious symbol
A symbol that represents a religion or a religious idea.
Prophet
A person who communicates God's message.
Brahman
The one supreme god of Hinduism.
Reincarnation
The idea that when you die your soul moves to another body; a belief held by Hindus and Buddhists.
Nirvana
A state of wisdom and peace that Buddhists aim to reach.
Monotheism
The belief in one God, practiced by religions such as Christianity and Judaism.
Followers of Christianity
Called Christians, with a population of 4,030,011 in Ireland (2016).
Followers of Islam
Called Muslims, with a population of 63,443 in Ireland (2016).
Followers of Hinduism
Called Hindus, with a population of 14,332 in Ireland (2016).
Followers of Buddhism
Called Buddhists, with a population of 9,758 in Ireland (2016).
Followers of Judaism
Called Jews, with a population of 2,557 in Ireland (2016).
Cross
The symbol of Christianity that represents the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The crescent moon and five-pointed star
The symbol of Islam representing how the religion guides people, inspired by early Muslims using the moon and stars to find their way in the desert.
The aum
The symbol of Hinduism representing the sound Hindus make when meditating and the three aspects of God: Brahma (A), Vishnu (U) and Shiva (M).
The dharma wheel
The symbol of Buddhism, known as the wheel of transformation, representing the perfection of the Buddha's teaching and the eightfold path.
The star of David
The symbol of Judaism named after King David, consisting of six points and two overlapping triangles.

Founded by Jesus Christ in the mid-first century CE in the Middle East.
Islam Founder and Origin
Founded by Muhammad in the early seventh century CE in the Middle East.
Hinduism Founder and Origin
The founder is unknown; it began between 2500−1800 BCE in Northern India.
Buddhism Founder and Origin
Founded by Siddhartha Gautama (also known as the Buddha) around 500 BCE in Northern India.
Judaism Founder and Origin
Founded by Abraham and Moses between 1800−1500 BCE in the Middle East.
Key Beliefs of Judaism
Belief in one God, role of family and tradition, and the importance of Jewish law first given to Moses.
Four Noble Truths
A key belief system in Buddhism along with the Eight-Fold Path.
Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva
The three aspects of God represented by the three sounds in the Hindu 'aum' symbol.
