Color Perception
The ability to perceive color as a result of light hitting the retina and being processed by the brain.
Trichromacy Theory
A theory of color perception that states that the human retina has three types of cones, each sensitive to specific wavelengths of light.
Opponent Processing Theory
A theory that suggests color perception is controlled by the activity of opponent cells in the brain that respond to pairs of colors.
Color Constancy
The ability to perceive the colors of objects consistently under varying illumination conditions.
Whorf-Sapir Hypothesis
The hypothesis that language influences thought and perception, particularly in how colors are categorized.
Afterimage
A visual phenomenon where an image continues to appear in one's vision after the exposure to the original stimulus has ceased.
Phenomenology
The study of how things appear to our conscious awareness, including color and perception.
Color Blindedness
A condition where individuals cannot perceive certain colors correctly due to the failure of specific photoreceptors.
Opponent Color Space
A color model that indicates how colors are perceived in opposition to each other, such as red-green and blue-yellow.
CIE Lab Space
A color space developed to be approximately perceptually uniform, capturing the full gamut of human color experience.
