What is Following Activity Rules?
The child has not lost any points for violating activity rules during the entire interval.
When does a child earn points for Following Activity Rules?
When they follow all activity rules and receive no point losses for rule violations during the interval.
What is Good Sportsmanship?
Positive behavior during recreation activities where the child participates appropriately and follows sportsmanship expectations.
What two conditions must be met to earn Good Sportsmanship points?
The child has not lost points for poor sportsmanship.
The child has not been in time-out during any part of the interval.
When is Good Sportsmanship evaluated?
Only during recreation periods.
Is Good Sportsmanship evaluated during games played at other times of the day?
No.
What is a Behavior Bonus?
Extra points earned for maintaining positive behavior throughout an interval.
What must a child do to earn a Behavior Bonus?
Not lose points for any negative behavior category (except Violating Activity Rules and Poor Sportsmanship).
Not be in time-out during any part of the interval.
What is Attention?
Demonstrating awareness of the ongoing activity by answering a staff member's question correctly.
How quickly must a child answer an Attention question?
Within 5 seconds.
What if a question has multiple parts?
The child must answer every part correctly.
What happens if the child's answer includes a negative behavior?
The child loses points for the negative behavior and does not earn Attention points.
What takes precedence, Attention or Contributing to a Group Discussion?
Attention takes precedence.
What if the child makes a reasonable effort but takes longer than 5 seconds to finish answering?
The child still earns Attention points if the answer is completed appropriately.
What is Compliance?
Following a staff command or stopping a behavior after a staff command.
How quickly must a child comply with a command?
Within 10 seconds or within the time specified by the staff member.
Can Compliance be evaluated for group commands?
Yes.
What if a child starts complying but needs more than 10 seconds to finish?
If the effort is reasonable and appropriate, points are awarded when the task is completed.
What is Helping a Peer?
Voluntarily providing assistance to another child.
What conditions must be met for Helping a Peer?
The help is relevant to the activity.
It does not disrupt the activity.
It does not meet criteria for a negative behavior.
The help is accepted
Does passing the ball to a teammate count as Helping a Peer?
No. Actions required as part of a game do not count.
What is Sharing with a Peer?
Voluntarily giving another child access to possessions, privileges, or materials.
What conditions must be met for Sharing?
It is relevant to the activity.
It does not disrupt the activity.
It does not involve a negative behavior.
The sharing is accepted.
Does sharing equipment as a required part of a game count?
No.
What is Contributing to a Group Discussion?
Making a task-related, non-redundant comment during a discussion.
What are examples during problem-solving discussions?
Defining a problem.
Describing causes and consequences.
Suggesting solutions.
Answering staff questions constructively.
Reflecting on others' feelings.
Asking constructive questions.
What are examples during social skills training?
Defining social skills.
Role-playing examples.
Explaining why social skills are important.
Discussing outcomes of appropriate social behavior.
What are examples during pre-activity or post-activity discussions?
Explaining activity rules.
Discussing problems that occurred.
Discussing progress made.
Suggesting improvements.
What takes precedence, Helping a Peer or Contributing to a Group Discussion?
Contributing to a Group Discussion.
How often can points be awarded?
One award per statement, regardless of how many ideas are included.
What is Ignoring a Negative Stimulus?
Showing no negative reaction to behavior that would normally cause annoyance or distress.
What are examples of negative stimuli?
Aggression
Property destruction
Stealing
Lying
Name-calling
Interruptions
Complaining or whining
Can points be awarded if the negative behavior comes from a child in time-out?
Yes, once per minute if the child continues ignoring the behavior.
Does normal physical contact during gameplay count as a negative stimulus?
No.
What is Violating Activity Rules?
Breaking rules that are specific to a game, activity, drill, or lesson.
Can counselors change activity rules?
No. Standard activity rules must be followed exactly as written.
What must happen before an activity begins?
Rules and instructions must be reviewed with the group.
What is Poor Sportsmanship?
Behavior during recreation that interferes with fair play and teamwork.
What behaviors count as Poor Sportsmanship?
Not participating.
Playing another person's position inappropriately.
Hogging the ball.
Bragging.
Complaining.
Cheating.
Refusing to share equipment.
Misusing equipment.
Losing points for aggression, lying, verbal abuse, teasing, or swearing.
When is Poor Sportsmanship evaluated?
Only during recreation periods.
Can behaviors occurring during time-out result in Poor Sportsmanship point losses?
No.
What is Intentional Aggression?
Deliberate physical behavior that could cause injury or restrict another person's movement.
Who decides whether behavior was intentional?
The observing staff member.
What consequence always follows Intentional Aggression?
Time-out.
Are all aggressive-looking actions during sports considered Intentional Aggression?
No. Intent to harm must be determined.
Must parents be informed when Intentional Aggression occurs?
Yes.
What is Unintentional Aggression?
Physical behavior that could cause injury or restrict movement but appears accidental.
What might cause Unintentional Aggression?
Clumsiness
Lack of skill
Inattention
Does normal contact during gameplay count as Unintentional Aggression?
No.
What is Intentional Destruction of Property?
Deliberately damaging, destroying, defacing, or altering an object.
What kinds of damage qualify?
Destroying an object.
Defacing an object.
Damaging an object so its value or usefulness is significantly reduced.
How long does a child have to answer an Attention question?
5 seconds.
How long does a child have to comply with a command?
10 seconds unless another time is specified.
Which behavior always results in time-out?
Intentional Aggression.
What takes precedence over Contributing to a Group Discussion?
Attention.
