BQ:What would a heart CT show for a person with Marfan Syndrome?
BQ:Aortic enlargement
BQ:what syndrome is this? An inherited connective tissue disorder where the subject is unusually tall. Has a large aorta and heart issues. Plus they have high blood pressure.
BQ: Marfan syndrome
What does an inaccurate medical history cause?
It could cause the doctor to misdiagnose you and you could either get the wrong treatment where it makes no difference or it causes you more issues.
Are bones a living tissue?
*Bones ares stronger than concrete.
Yes
Describe the function of bone.
-what is wrapped inside layers of mineral salt
-What do cells inside the bone do?
-Why are there blood vessels in the bones?
-What do these structural components allow?
-Cells and protein fibers
-hard at work, constantly remodeling and replacing old or damaged bone
-Blood vessels and nerves bring needed nutrients and signals to the cells in this hard matrix.
-allow bones to withstand tremendous amounts of stress and protect the internal organs from damage and injury.
what are the two types of bones?
-Spongy:Porous bone found in animals containing red bone marrow
-compact: Solid and hard bone that makes up the outer layer of all bones and the shafts of long bones.

BQ:WHAT IS THIS TYPE OF BONE?
-layer of spongy bone between two layers of this compact bone.
-They have marrow but no marrow cavity
*left parietal bone
BQ:FLAT BONE

BQ:WHAT IS THIS TYPE OF BONE?-
-Shaft and two ends
-LONGER THAN IS WIDE
-Thick outside layer with a marrow filled cavity.
-The ends of the bone contain spongy bone.
*RIGHT HUMERUS SHOWN
BQ:LONG BONE

BQ:WHAT IS THIS TYPE OF BONE?-
-thin layers of spongy bone surrounded by compact bone
-do not fit any of the other bone types
*THORACIC VERTEBRAE SHOWN
BQ:IRREGULAR BONE

WHAT IS THIS TYPE OF BONE?-
-cube shaped with vertical and horizontal dimensions being approximately equal.
-Consist of mostly spongy bone
-The outside surface is a thin layer of compact bone.
*RIGHT CARPALS SHOWN
BQ:SHORT BONE
PARTS OF THE LONG BONE(FEMUR)-
-On each side of the bone, contain vessels, and trabecular(spongy) bones.
-Honeycomb like framework that is ideal for supporting weight.
-Red bone marrow is located here.
Epiphyses
PARTS OF THE LONG BONE(FEMUR)-
-Contains the medullary cavity
-Filled with vessels and yellow bone marrow
-Compact bone is wrapped around it
Diaphysis(bone shaft)
PARTS OF THE LONG BONE(FEMUR)-
-long space with blood vessels and yellow bone marrow.
-nutrient artery and vein run through it and branch off into smaller categories.
-surrounded by compact bone
Medullary Cavity
PARTS OF THE LONG BONE(FEMUR)-
-between the epiphysis at the top and diaphysis at the bottom
-contains growth plate
THINK EMD!!!
Metaphysis
PARTS OF THE LONG BONE(FEMUR)-
-Mostly made of fat
-contains stem cells that can become cartilage, fat.or stem cells.
-colored because of fat cells.
-you aren’t born with this it converts from red marrow over time.
Yellow bone Marrow
PARTS OF BONES:
-covers the entire bone except for areas at joints which are covered articular cartilage.
-extremely vascular and full of blood vessels which allows blood and nutrients to enter the long bones.
-THINK OUTSIDE LAYER
Periosteum
PARTS OF BONES:
-cancellous bone(Lightweight,Porous)
-honey-comb like framework called trabecule
-usually found in the widened extremities sofa long bones.
-provides flexibility and support for shifts in weight.
Spongy Bone
Parts of Bones:
-located around the perimeter and middle segment of long bones.
-denser than spongy bone and provides weight-bearing support.
Compact Bone-parts of bone
PARTS OF BONES:
-carry nutrients to blood
-located in the long bone
-transported through a nutrient artery and vein
Blood vessel

PART OF THE BONE:
-One of four kinds of bone cells
-They perform metabolic, structural, homeostatic, and neuroprotective tasks
-clearing excess neurotransmitters, stabilizing and regulating the blood-brain barrier, and promoting synapse formation.
Osteocytes

PART OF THE BONE:
-allow blood vessels and nerves to travel through them to supply the osteocytes.
-a series of microscopic tubes in the outermost region of bone called cortical bone.
Haversian Canal

PART OF THE BONE:
-microscopic channels found in bone tissue
-houses osteocytes
Canaculi

Spongy and cancellous
PART OF THE BONE:
-provides support
-provides strength
Bone trabeculae
