what is the conditional?
The conditional tense in Spanish expresses what you would do or what would happen under certain crimstances
verb endings (KEEP VERB IN INFINITIVE FORM WHEN YOU ADD THE ENDINGS
-ia, -ias, -ia, -iamos, -iais, -ian
irregulars conditional
decir - dir
hacer - har
poder - podr
poner - pondr
haber - habr
querer - querr
saber - sabr
salir - saldr
tener - tendr
venir - vendr
Example of using conditional:
Creia que hoy haria sol. —> I thought it would be sunny today.
VERUS FUTURE:
Creo que mana hara sol. —> I think ti will be sunny tomorrow.
The past subjunctive
The past subjunctive is used mainly in multiple clause setneces that express states and conditions such as wil, influence, emotion, commands, indefiniteness, and non-existence
PAST subjunctive endings
-ra, -ras, -ra, ramos, rais, ran
Verbs irregular preterites → add the past subjunctive endings to the irregular stem, (REMOVE THE ENDING IN THE PRETERITE AND THEN ADD EDNING)
dar — die
decir — dije
estar — estuvie
hacer — hici
ir/ser — fue
poder — pudie
poner — pusie
querer - quisi
saber — supi
tener — tuvie
venir - vini
-ir stem-changing verbs and other verbs with spelling changes follow a similar process to form the past subjunctive
preferir — prefirie
repetir — repitie
dormir — durmie
conducir — conduje
creer — creye
destruir — destruye
oir — oye
