Router
A device that connects multiple networks, forwards data packets between them, and determines the best paths for efficient communication.
Gateway
An entry point to different networks that handles protocol conversions.
Difference Between Gateways and Routers
Gateways serve as entry points and handle protocol conversions, while routers direct data within the same protocol or network.
Packets
Small units of data that contain the data itself, destination address, and control information for effective data flow management.
Routing Table
A map for routers containing destination addresses, next hops, and path information for decision-making.
Static Routing
Routing that is manually set and remains unchanged until modified.
Dynamic Routing
Routing that automatically updates routes in real-time according to network conditions.
Network Address Translation (NAT)
A method that modifies IP addresses to allow multiple devices to share a single public IP.
Traffic Management with NAT
The process of tracking active connections, translating private IPs to public ones, optimizing IP usage, and enhancing security by hiding internal addresses.
Port Address Translation (PAT)
A type of NAT that maps multiple local devices to one public IP using different port numbers for managing connections.
