An enslaved man who sued for his freedom. He was free and lived in the north most of his life. His master died, and he was left with relatives who made him come down to the south. He sued, and it was taken to the Supreme Court. The ruling was that slaves are property, not citizens, and that Congress cannot ban slavery in any territory.
