Prostate Gland
A walnut-sized gland that surrounds the neck of the bladder and urethra in males, responsible for secreting seminal fluid.
Function of the Prostate Gland
To secrete the liquid portion of seminal fluid, which carries sperm.
Seminal Fluid
A fluid that carries sperm, produced by the prostate and other glands.
Digital Rectal Examination
A procedure where a physician checks the prostate by palpating through the rectum to detect enlargement or masses.
Bulbourethral Glands (Cowper's glands)
Two glands located below the prostate that secrete pre-ejaculatory fluid.
Pre-ejaculatory Fluid
A fluid secreted by the bulbourethral glands that lubricates the urethra and neutralizes urine acidity.
Penis Structure
Composed of two parts: the shaft and the glans.
Meatus
The opening at the end of the glans where semen and urine exit the body.
Erectile Tissue
Three columns of tissue in the penis that can expand with blood flow to cause an erection.
Circumcision
The excision of the foreskin (prepuce) that covers the glans of the penis.
