CN I (Olfactory Nerve)
Function: Smell (S) - Passes through the cribriform plate of the ethmoid bone.
CN II (Optic Nerve)
Function: Vision (S) - Passes through the optic canals of the sphenoid bone.
CN III (Oculomotor Nerve)
Function: Eye movements (M) -Controls most of the eye muscles.
CN IV (Trochlear Nerve)
Function: Eye movement (M) - Innervates the superior oblique muscle.
CN V (Trigeminal Nerve)
Function: Sensory (S) for face and motor (M) for mastication.
CN VI (Abducens Nerve)
Function: Eye movement (M) - Innervates the lateral rectus muscle.
CN VII (Facial Nerve)
Function: Taste (S) from anterior 2/3 of the tongue, control facial expressions (M).
CN VIII (Vestibulocochlear Nerve)
Function: Hearing and balance (S).
CN IX (Glossopharyngeal Nerve)
Function: Taste (S) from posterior 1/3 of the tongue and motor (M) for swallowing.
CN X (Vagus Nerve)
Function: Sensory and motor (M) to various thoracic and abdominal organs.
CN XI (Accessory Nerve)
Function: Motor (M) to the sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles.
CN XII (Hypoglossal Nerve)
Function: Motor (M) to the tongue.
