contraction
sarcomeres within myofibrils shorten as Z discs are pulled closer together
exposed myosin sites
globular heads of myosin bind with these sites forming cross bridges between the 2 types of filaments
myosin heads moving
actin filaments are pulled towards the centre of the sarcomere causing small muscle contraction
ATP hydrolysis
occurs at the myosin heads…providing energy required for the myosin heads to release the actin filaments
myosin moving back
heads move to original positions and bind to new sites closer to the Z disc
repetitive process
as long as troponin and tropomyosin arent blocking myosin binding site…process repeats till muscle is fully contracted
