Tourism
A social, economic, and cultural phenomenon involving the movement of individuals to countries or places outside their usual environment.
The Traveller
Any individual moving between different geographic locations for any purpose or duration.
The Visitor
A specific subset of traveler who journeys outside their regular routine for less than a year, whose primary goal is not employment by an entity inside the destination.
The Tourist
A visitor whose stay includes at least one overnight accommodation in either collective or private lodging.
The Excursionist
A visitor who arrives and departs within the same calendar day without spending the night.
Domestic Tourism
Residents traveling exclusively within their own country's borders.
Inbound Tourism
Non-residents entering and traveling within a specific host country.
Outbound Tourism
Residents leaving their home country to travel internationally.
The 5 A's
The infrastructure model used to analyze a destination's readiness: Attraction, Accessibility, Accommodation, Amenities, and Activities.
Attraction
The initial spark or reason for travel, which can be natural features (e.g., beaches, national parks) or man-made structures (e.g., historical monuments, museums).
Accessibility
The transport infrastructure, including air routes, highways, railways, cruise ports, and local transit networks required to reach the destination.
Accommodation
Lodging infrastructures that match the visitor profile, such as hotels, eco-lodges, hostels, or campsites.
Amenities
The supplementary infrastructure ensuring guest comfort, covering telecommunications, banking, clean public water, dining options, and emergency services.
Activities
The interactive opportunities available during the stay, including guided excursions, festivals, local sports, and cultural workshops.
