An amount of money that is borrowed, often from a bank, and has to be paid back, usually together with an extra amount of money that you have to pay as a charge for borrowing.

A particular amount of money that is paid, usually every week, to an employee, especially one who does work that needs physical skills or strength.

To formally choose someone to do a special piece of work, or to formally ask for a special piece of work from someone.

To try to make someone do something for you by giving them money, presents, or something else that they want.

An account in a bank or similar financial organization that earns interest.
exchange rate
The rate at which the money of one country can be changed for the money of another country.
currency
The money that is used in a particular country at a particular time.
dividend
A part of the profit of a company that is paid to the people who own shares in it.
legacy
Money or property that you receive from someone after they die.
maintenance
Money that a person must pay regularly by law in order to support their child or previous marriage partner after a divorce.
overdraft
An amount of money that a customer with a bank account is temporarily allowed to owe to the bank, or the agreement that allows this.
royalties
A payment made to writers, people who have invented things, owners of property, etc. every time their books, devices, land, etc. are bought or used by others.
a share
A type of share in a unit trust or mutual fund that carries a sales charge when it is bought rather than when it is sold.
mortgage
An agreement that allows you to borrow money from a bank or similar organization, especially in order to buy a house, or the amount of money itself.
going rate
The amount of money that something costs at the present time.
tax relief
The system of allowing someone not to pay tax on a part of their income.
tackle
To try to deal with something or someone.
dowry
In some societies, an amount of money or property that a woman's parents give to the man she marries.
heirloom
A valuable object that has been given by older members of a family to younger members of the same family over many years.
heritage
Features belonging to the culture of a particular society, such as traditions, languages, or buildings, that were created in the past and still have historical importance.
inheritance
Money or objects that someone gives you when they die.
