Gender Studies
An interdisciplinary field that explores the roles, experiences, and social meanings of gender in society, examining how identity, roles, and relations are shaped by cultural, social, political, and economic factors.
Sex
Biological characteristics, such as male, female, or intersex, based on anatomy and chromosomes.
Gender
Socially constructed roles, behaviors, and identities such as masculine, feminine, or nonbinary.
Gender Identity
A person's internal sense of their gender, such as man, woman, transgender, or agender.
Gender Expression
How a person presents their gender through clothes, behavior, and appearance.
Sexual Orientation
Who a person is romantically or sexually attracted to, such as heterosexual, bisexual, or asexual.
Transgender
A person whose gender identity differs from the sex assigned at birth.
Cisgender
A person whose gender identity matches the sex assigned at birth.
LGBTQIA+
An acronym for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and more.
Patriarchy
A social system where men hold more power over political, economic, and social institutions.
Feminism
A movement to achieve equality between genders through social, economic, and political change.
Gender-Based Violence
Harm based on gender identity, such as domestic violence, harassment, or discrimination.
Gender Inequality
Unequal access to resources, education, or jobs based on gender or gender identity.
Algorithmic Bias
Gender bias that exists in algorithms and AI systems, producing unfair outcomes.
Inclusive Design
A principle in technology where products are designed for diversity, such as using diverse avatars and ensuring accessibility.
