New cards

Endagered

When a type of organism is in danger of ceasing to exist. This can be a result of poaching or over fishing, extinction of other organisms can endanger another organism (they could be relying on them), global warming, human activities and invasive species.

2
New cards

Extinct

When an organism no longer exists

example is Thylacines, they became extinct in 1936 because they were all killed by humans to protect sheep.

3
New cards

Species

Organisms that can interbreed to produce viable, fertile offspring

4
New cards

Hybrid

Offspring of two different species of organisms. Examples are:
Liger: Male lion+female tiger (A liger was feritile and produced a liligar with a lion

Tigon: Male tiger+female lion

Growlar/Pizzly bear: Grizzly bear+polar bear

Cama: Camel+llama

Natrual Selection

The process by which the environment ’selects’ certain genetic variations in characteristics which are then passed on to the next generation.

genetic variation—> change enviroment—> certain variations are advantages—> those individuals are more likely to survive and reproduce—> Next generation will have more individuals with those advantages traits/characteristics.

Evolution  and Darwin’s theory

This is a change over time in the characteristics of organisms.

Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallance developed a hypothesizes that natrual selection causes evolution.

As populations evolve they can become new species

Peppered Moths

Most peppered moths were pale in the 1850’s, then factories starting churning out soot this turned the trees black and predetors like birds could now easily spot the pale moths and eat them, more black moths survived and reproduced, increasing their numbers. This is an example of natrual selection.
