Sarcodina
Motility results from streaming of ectoplasm, producing protoplasmic projections (pseudopods/ false feet). Prototypic amoebas include free-living Amoeba proteus and Entamoeba histolytica
Mastigophora
Whip-like flagella effects locomotion. Free-living examples: Cercomonas, Heteronema and Euglena. Parasitic forms include Trichomonas vaginalis, Giardia intestinalis and Trypanosoma species
Ciliophora
Short, hairlike cilia carries out locomotion. Examples are Paramecium cuadatum (free-living) and Balantidium coli (parasitic)
Sporozoa
No locomotion in mature stage; some locomotion in immature stage. All members of this group are parasites. Examples are members of the genus Plasmodium, malarial parasite of animals and humans
