Automatic processing

refers to cognitive activities that occur without conscious awareness & require minimal cognitive resources

Explicit memory

memories you can consciously recall and describe, such as facts and events

Implicit memory

memories that influence behavior without conscious awareness, such as skills and habits

Emotional memory

memory that is strengthened or influenced by emotions, often leading to stronger and more lasting recall of emotional events

Deep processing

Involves thorough & meaningful engagement with information

Shallow Processing

Involves superficial & less elaborate cognitive processing

Self-Reference Effect

the tendency to better remember information when it is related to oneself

Iconic Memory

a type of sensory memory that briefly stores visual information for a fraction of a second after it is seen

Echoic Memory

a type of sensory memory that briefly stores auditory (sound) information for a few seconds after it is heard

Semantic Endoding

the process of encoding information based on its meaning
