Network devices

Router

A computer that receives, filters, and sends data packets across networks. They are located at the place where two or more networks meet thereby connecting them.

Switch

A device that connects various devices in a network. It sends incoming data to a specific port.

Modem

A device that converts digital data from a computer or other device into an analog signal that can be sent over standard telephone lines.

Network Interface Card (NIC)

A hardware component/circuit board installed in a computer that provides networking capabilities by enabling one computer to send and receive data to and from another computer.

Hub

A component which connects two or more devices together in a network. It broadcast all incoming data to all active ports.
