Christianity
A monotheistic religion centered on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, born about 2,000 years ago in Judea.
Judea
The region in present-day Israel where Christianity was born.
Christians
The followers of Jesus Christ.
Monotheistic religion
A belief in one God.
Judaism
The religion established by the Hebrews in which both Christianity and Islam have their roots.
Bethlehem
The location in Judea where Jesus was born in about the 4th century.
Christmas
Jesus' birthday, celebrated globally on 25th December.
Nazareth
A town in Galilee, North Israel, where Jesus grew up.
Mary and Joseph
Jesus' parents, who were descendants from Israel's most famous king, David.
Parables
Stories about the kingdom of God through which Jesus preached to people.
Moses
The forefather and spiritual leader whose code of conduct framed many old Jewish laws.
Pontius Pilate
The Roman governor of Judea to whom Jesus was handed over after his arrest.
Golgotha
The place where Jesus was dragged and crucified by Roman soldiers.
Good Friday
The Friday on which Jesus was put to death for the good of mankind.
Resurrection
The event occurring on the third day (Sunday) when Jesus rose from the dead.
Easter Sunday
The annual celebration in March or April of the resurrection of Jesus.
29 AD
The year in which Jesus ascended into heaven after appearing before his disciples for 40 days.
AD 1
The year with which the Christian era begins and is traditionally recognized as the year of Jesus' birth.
