Bone marrow
A structure of the hematologic system responsible for blood cell production.
CBC with differential
A diagnostic laboratory test that measures red blood cells, white blood cells, and the specific percentages of different types of leukocytes.
PT/INR
Prothrombin Time/International Normalized Ratio; used to monitor blood clotting and the effectiveness of anticoagulants.
PTT
Partial Thromboplastin Time; a diagnostic test used to assess the blood's intrinsic coagulation pathway.
Platelet count
An assessment of the number of thrombocytes in the blood used to evaluate clotting potential.
Cobalamin (B12) deficiency anemia
A type of anemia caused by a lack of vitamin B12, specified in Chapter 34 reading assignments.
Sickle Cell Disease
A disorder associated with erythrocytes involving abnormal hemoglobin and red blood cell shape.
Hemochromatosis
A disorder characterized by iron overload within the body.
Polycythemia
A condition involving an abnormal increase in the number of circulating red blood cells.
Thrombocytopenia
A disorder associated with thrombocytes characterized by a low platelet count.
Hemophilia
A coagulation disorder that affects the blood's ability to clot properly.
Neutropenia
A disorder associated with leukocytes characterized by a abnormally low count of neutrophils.
Innate Immunity
A type of normal immune response that is present at birth.
Acquired Immunity
A type of immunity that develops after the body is exposed to an antigen or receives antibodies from another source.
Cytokines
Proteins involved in the immune response that act as messengers between cells.
Anaphylaxis
A systemic hypersensitivity reaction that requires immediate emergency management.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
A chronic autoimmune connective tissue disorder characterized by inflammation of the joints.
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
A connective tissue disease and autoimmune disorder addressed in Chapter 69 reading assignments.
Scleroderma
A chronic connective tissue disorder listed under immunology nursing management.
Fibromyalgia
A musculoskeletal and immune-related disorder characterized by widespread pain, discussed in Chapter 69.
Colchicine
A pharmacologic intervention used specifically for managing acute attacks of Gout.
Allopurinol
A pharmacologic intervention used for chronic attacks and maintenance of Gout.
Methotrexate
An antimetabolite medication used in the management of immune and connective tissue disorders.
Biological Response Modifiers (BRMs)
A category of immunotherapy drugs that includes rituximab and abatacept.
Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) Inhibitors
A class of drugs used for immune disorders that includes adalimumab and etanercept.
Osteomalacia
A metabolic bone disease characterized by the softening of the bones.
Osteoporosis
A metabolic bone disease characterized by low bone mass and structural deterioration of bone tissue.
Osteoarthritis
A common chronic musculoskeletal disorder involving the breakdown of joint cartilage.
Intervertebral disk disease
A chronic musculoskeletal condition affecting the disks between vertebrae in the spine.
Pressure injuries
A skin integrity issue categorized under Inflammation & Healing (Chapter 11) rather than Integumentary Problems (Chapter 22).
Acne vulgaris
A common integumentary condition listed in Chapter 25 reading assignments.
Psoriasis
A chronic integumentary disorder characterized by skin cell buildup, found in Chapter 25.
