Interpersonal intelligence
the ability to detect and navigate the moods and motivations of others

Theory of emotional intelligence
addresses emotional awareness in four components: 1) ability to express and perceive emotions in ourself and others, 2) ability to comprehend and analyze our emotions, 3) ability to regulate emotions, and 4) awareness of how emotions shape our thoughts and decisions
Mediating variable
specifies a given cause (independent variable) that works indirectly through a more direct cause to a final effect (dependent variable). it explains the relationship between 2 other variables
Moderating variable
specifies conditions under which a given predictor is related to an outcome. it explains when a dependent and independent variable are related. it influences the strength or direction of the relationship
Confounding variable
hypothetical or real third variable that is often not taken into account during analysis and can adversely affect study. not typically of interest to researcher but related to both dependent and independent variables
