Connective Tissue
Tissue that supports, protects, and gives structure to other tissues and organs in the body.
Fibrocytes
Cells that produce fibres in connective tissue.
Chondrocytes
Cells that produce cartilage.
Adipocytes
Cells that store fat in connective tissue.
Osteocytes
Bone cells that maintain bone tissue.
Mast Cells
Cells that release histamine and heparin during inflammatory responses.
Erythrocytes
Red blood cells that transport oxygen in the blood.
Hyaluronic Acid
A glycosaminoglycan that contributes to the viscosity of synovial fluid.
Viscosity
A measure of a fluid's resistance to flow.
Thixotropic Fluid
A fluid whose viscosity decreases with increased stress or agitation.
Collagen
A protein that provides strength and support in connective tissues.
Elastic Cartilage
Cartilage that provides support and flexibility, found in structures like the ear.
Fibrocartilage
Cartilage that withstands compression, found in intervertebral discs.
Regeneration
The process of repair after tissue damage, involving fibroblasts and scar tissue formation.
Inflammation
The body's response to injury or pathogens, characterized by swelling, redness, warmth, and pain.
Synovial Fluid
A viscous fluid secreted by synovial membranes that lubricates joints.
Ground Substance
The non-cellular material in connective tissue providing support and facilitating diffusion.
