Definition of Newton's First Law
An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion, unless acted upon by an outside force.
Example of Newton's First Law
Kicking a ball: It is still, until force is applied to it (you kicking it)
Definition of Newton's Second Law
When a force from one direction is larger than the opposite direction, we have an unbalanced force that will result in movement that speeds up as the force is delivered.
Example of Newton's Second Law
Pushing a Shopping Cart: A cart with less stuff in it (less mass) is easier to push, whereas a cart with more stuff in it (more mass) is harder to push.
Definition of Newton's Third Law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. When we apply a force into an object, the object will need to apply the same force back or it will collapse.
Example of Newton's Third Law
Walking (when you walk, you push down on the ground, and the ground pushes back the same force as you did)
Definition of Gravity
The force that attracts a body toward the center of the earth, or toward any other physical body having mass.
