What’s the difference between ADR and side effects
•A side effect is an expected and known effect of a drug that is not the intended therapeutic outcome.
•ADRs are harmful and more unexpected.
How is ADR classified
By Extended Rawlins- Thompson classification
State and explain the two types of Extended Rawlins- Thompson Classification
Type A reactions- ‘ dose-dependent’ and predictable on the basis of the pharmacology of the drug
Type B reactions- bizarre reactions- which are distinctive and not predictable on the basis of the pharmacology
explains the classification DoTS
Dose of the drug
Time course of the reaction
Response of Susceptibility factors
What are the general factors affecting ADRs Susceptibility
Age and Gender
Co-morbidities and concomitant medicines use
Pharmacogenetics
G6PD deficiency
Porphyria
What are the resources for identifying signs and symptoms
Clinical trial data
Case reports
