Defining Febrile Neutropenia…
Fevers:
Any single oral temp of 101ºF
Temp > 100ºF for more than one hour
Neutropenia
Absolute neutrophil count < 500 cells/mm3
Absolute neutrophil count expected to decrease to < 500 in next 48 hours
Profound: ANC < 100 cells/mm3
Calculating Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC)
WBC: 0.9 x 10^3 = 900 cells/mm3 x 0.68 neutrophil % = ANC cells/mm3

Febrile Neutropenia - Outpatient Empiric TX
Levofloxacin
Ciprofloaxin PLUS amoxicillin/clavulante
Febrile Neutropenia - Inpatient Empiric TX
Anti-pseudomonal B-lactam
Cefepime
Pip/tazo
Meropenem or imipenem
Duration of Therapy: Common Approach
Treat until ANC > 500 cells/mL AND afebrile for 48 hours
