Anchoring
Provides stability to one body part through active connection with another body part in an opposing direction. Not the same as grounding.
Countertension
Movement in a direction that opposes the primary pull, and provides stability universally.
Core Support
Active central organization that supports physical weight-bearing and dynamic interaction with the environment. The absence of core support present as overexertion of external muscles or passive collapse into gravity.
Grounding
The relationship with the earth with weight-bearing.
Hollowing
The initiation of movement at the end of exhalation. This engages the pelvic floor, lower internal abdominals, and psoas in sequence.
Intent
The neuromuscular motor plan that precedes and determines the course of a movement phrase.
Kinetic Chain
The group of muscles engaged to produce support or movement across multiple joints.
Phrasing
The organization of movement into perceivable units. There is a preparation, initiation, main action, follow-through, and recuperation to every movement.
Body Attitude
The persistent torso organization from which all movement develops and returns, and is a psychophysiological indicator.
Vertical Thoroughness
A clear, energized pathway through the central axis from the earth to the top of the head.
Spatial Pull
Using the space available to the mover.
Three-Dimensionality
A movement that creates a changing volumetric form shifting in the three planes.
Weight Sensing
The proprioceptive awareness of the weight of one's own body parts relating to gravity.
Sequencing
The movement that flows through the body in organized, patterned sequences moving between the core and distal body.
