Acquiescence
The reluctant acceptance of something without protest.
Example-"In silent acquiescence, she sighed and began the extra chores her boss had assigned.”
Garish
bright and showy; loud (like in fashion)
Example- "The restaurant was decorated with garish neon signs that made it impossible to ignore, even from three blocks away."
Inundate
To overwhelm (someone) with things or people to be dealt with
Example- "As soon as the sale was announced the customer service team was inundated with hundreds of phone calls."
Seldom
Not often; rarely.
Example- "He was a quiet man who seldom spoke during meetings unless he had something vital to contribute."
Temerity
Excessive confidence or boldness; audacity.
Example-"No one could believe he had the temerity to ask for a promotion after being late to work every day this week."
Vehement
Showing strong feeling; forceful passionate, or intense.
Example: "Despite the evidence against him, he issued a vehement denial of all charges."
Encumbered
Restricted or burdened in such a way that free action or movement is difficult.
Example- "The hikers were encumbered by heavy packs and thick winter gear, making the climb much slower."
Edify
To instruct or improve morally or intellectually.
Example- "The documentary was designed to edify the public about the importance of ocean conservation."
Notoriety
The state of being famous or well-known for some bad quality or deed.
Example-"The outlaw gained notoriety for his daring escapes and clever disguises."
Pertinent
Relevant or applicable to a particular matter; apposite.
Example-"Please keep your comments pertinent to the topic we are currently discussing."
Asinine
Extremely stupid or foolish.
Example- "It was an asinine decision to go sailing right before a major storm was predicted to hit."
Recluse
A person who lives a solitary life and tends to avoid other people.
Example-"After retiring from the film industry, the famous actress became a recluse, rarely leaving her estate."
Predilection
A preference or special liking for something; a bias in favor of something.
Example-"He has a predilection for spicy food, often adding hot sauce to almost every meal."
Cynical
distrustful of human sincerity or integrity.
Example-"Years of working in politics had made her cynical about the promises made by candidates."
Repertoire
A listworks that a person or group knows and can perform.
Example- "The pianist’s repertoire includes everything from classical concertos to modern jazz."
Contempt
The feeling that a person or a thing is beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn.
Example: "She looked at the messy room with a face full of contempt."
Subsequent
Coming after something in time; following.
Example- "The first chapter was slow, but the subsequent parts of the book were incredibly exciting."
Perplex
To cause someone to feel completely baffled or confused.
Example- "The complex math problem continued to perplex even the smartest students in the class."
Accost
To approach and address someone boldly or aggressively.
Example-"Reporters began to accost the celebrity as he tried to leave the courthouse."
Assuage
To make an unpleasant feeling less intense; to satisfy an appetite or desire.
Example: "A warm apology assuaged his anger, and they were able to talk calmly again."
Arbitrate
To reach an authoritative judgment or settlement.
Example- "The council was called in to arbitrate the dispute between the two neighbors over the property line."
Onslaught
A fierce or destructive attack.
Example- "The village was unprepared for the onslaught of the rising floodwaters."
Fractious
Irritable and quarrelsome; difficult to control.
Example-"The long flight made the passengers fractious and impatient with the staff."
Tedious
Too long, slow, or dull; tiresome or monotonous.
Example: "Data entry can be a tedious job, but it requires a high level of accuracy."
Melancholy
A feeling of general darkness or sadness
Example- "The rainy weather always put him in a melancholy mood, making him want to stay inside and dream."
