Whu do metals have high boiling points?
They have giant metallic structures. A large amount of energy is needed to overcome the strong electrostatic forces of attraction between positively charged metal cations and negatively charged sea of delocalised electrons.
Why can metals conduct electricity?
They have a giant metallic lattice structures with metal cations surrounded by a sea of delocalised electrons which act as mobile charge carriers to conduct electricity.
What is an alloy
An alloy is a mixture of a metal and at least one other element.
Why are alloys harder than pure metals
Alloys contain atoms of different sizes hence the regular lattice arrangement of pure metal is disrupted. It is harder for layers of atoms to slide over one another when force is applied. Thus, alloys are harder and stronger than pure metals.
