Describe bedpan
It is to assist client in their urinary and bowel movements on the bed. It can washed with hot water as sterilization process
Describe urinal
Is a vessel (plastics or metal ) into which urine is passed and measured
Outline the steps to take when assisting client when using the urinal device

Describe commode
Is a chair like toilet with a container below the toilet seat that slides out for cleaning

Mobility and mental states of client to determine the choice of elimination device. And the manpower required to assist in elimination
Fluid/dietary intake - facilitie normal elimination
Assess the environment for proper lighting, ventilation and privacy. For safety, call bell should be within the reach of the client.
The principles of standard precautions when assisting client with the use of toileting aids(give 3)
observe, record and report the abnormal found
Provide perinatal care
Remain with the client who are weak, confusion, unsteady and assist as required-safety measure
Toilet device should be offered at regular intervals and as soon as requested
Position the client appropriately to facilitate voiding
Ensure toilet device are clean, dry and covered
Ensure privacy
After procedures - cover & remove the device
Things to observe for
Colour
Brown, black, green , yellow or blood stained stool
Amount
small/fair , moderate or large
Consistency
soft, loose, watery or hard
Odour
affected by indigested food or and normal flora

Principles of using elimination aids
Measure intake and output - pour in measuring jug for accurate measurement and corresponding diet with output nutrition assessment
Record
Report - for any abnormality
